Frequently Asked Questions
Whats the DPI scanning difference?
Normally we recommend 300 DPI scanning if you plan to reproduce the artwork as a same-size print. 600 and 900 DPI are especially used if you are planning to enlarge the artwork as a print. This is done to preserve detail and high quality resolution.
Is it cheaper to take the artwork out of the frame?
Often people do not want to take the artwork out of the frame as it will have to be re-taped on the back and reframed. This comes at an extra price. It is usually better to leave it preserved in the frame for conservation purposes. Also price is extra to photograph an artwork behind glass, it is probably cheaper than taking the artwork out altogether.
Can you do faster turnaround times?
If it is available at the time, we can offer a next-day priority service at an extra price of £40 plus VAT.
When can the artwork not be scanned?
When the artwork is above A2 size, has heavy three-dimensional texture, or is wrapped or inside a frame and behind glass. These are the most common circumstances of when photographing the artwork is required instead.
How are accurate colours achieved?
Scanned artworks are highly accurate in terms of colour and detail, however we do use calibrated monitors to adjust colours at high accuracy.
Photographed artworks are shot with colour cards beside them. This way once we come to editing, we can accurately judge by what is a true red, a true blue, true white, and true black etc. It gives us a very accurate guide to go by.
Can you colourise my damaged photograph?
Absolutely, this often takes more time on top of the repairing of the image. Feel free to drop off your printed photo to us for a quote, or email a digital file to Heritageco.design@icloud.com for a quote.
